The Telegraph by Hunter Skipworth - October 2010
The Marantz Melody Movie makes the perfect all in one playback solution for any living room.
Most of us are well aware of the outstanding picture quality provided by Blu-ray. But many are yet to embrace the added enjoyment of the format's high quality sound. The extra expense of home cinema speakers or a proper audio system for some being an unnecessary luxury, myself included.
The unit itself is built from quality materials and everything from the disc tray to the door covering and the USB ports seems are superbly crafted. On the back is a HDMI output for Blu-ray playback, as well as three auxiliary inputs and a secondary USB port to read music from hard drives. Irritatingly, the iPod dock connector is on the front of the unit, which means you have to spoil the Marantz's fine lines with trail of unsightly cables.
Blu-ray playback is of a seriously high standard, an audio quality is even better. I had the Melody Movie connected to a pair of KEF's Q300 (already an impressive sounding set of loudspeakers) and the Marantz had no problems driving them. The iPod connection provided direct control and playback from my iPhone and turned out a decent enough sound.
Not much else can be said about the Melody Movie other than that it will play just about any format of media you have. Anything from CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays and your iPod or iPhone will connect and play quickly and easily and the Marantz will do a great job driving sound through any decent set of speakers.

All in one!
CD’s that we listened to for ages, sounded on the Melody Movie as if we heard them for the first time again. Marantz is also the master of upscaling, for cd’s as well as for DVD’s, so no need to buy your DVD collection in HD! Besides the quality, the mat design makes it a great addition to your livingroom!
