Marantz’s 5 Star UD7006 is a 3D compatible Blu-Ray Disc player that combines a phenomenal 3D picture with fabulous high definition surround sound.
Being DLNA1.5-certified the Universal UD7006 can stream audio, video and photos stored on your home network, and to ensure top audio quality, it includes a special decoder for HD sound formats using a 32-bit audio DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter) with 7.1 analogue channel out.
The audio stage uses customised components and the unit can even play high resolution SACDs via the fast loading mechanism.
Standard DVDs gets a quality boost too – thanks to Anchor Bay’s ABT 2015 VRS™ video processing, which outputs 1080p from standard material via the HDMI 1.4a port.
For a sonic performance befitting the Marantz ‘because music matters’ motto, the UD7006 is equipped with customised components and Pure Direct Mode to ensure the best result from high resolution SACD’s (Super Audio CD’s) and CD’s.

Awesome 2D and 3D Blu-ray pictures; deft DVD upscaling; rhythmic and dynamic sound
Picture quality is outstanding straight out of the box … paints a stunningly detailed and texture rich picture ... skin tone, texture and colour has to be applauded, while edges remain rock-solid throughout slow pans and frenzied movements. Fine detail is easily rendered, too.
The shift to 3D playback produces equally stunning results. With Avatar, the depth of field on show looks realistic and believable; you never get a feeling that it looks too artificial. This level of finesse is going to be tough to beat…
Even after a drop in resolution to DVD, the Marantz shows no sign of slipping up. We didn’t even need to play with the integrated picture adjustment – it’s that accomplished.
The UD7006 is one of the most capable and rewarding disc-spinners of its kind … boasts onboard decoding and a set of eight-channel analogue inputs, so owners of older AV amps with no HDMI inputs can take advantage of high-def surround sound.
The UD7006 proves equally potent with movie soundtracks, too, with its lively character proving to be a real hit. On-screen action is delivered in an upbeat, up-tempo way: explosions and gunfire hit with gusto and decent weight, but there’s no lag or overhang before the next impact.
This energetic delivery translates to DVD-A, SACD and normal CD playback, too.
The UD7006 is a fine opening gambit from Marantz – it’s going to take something pretty special to top it.

The new UD7006 universal from Marantz plays just about every digital disc you could name.
Marantz has taken the issue of loading time seriously and it's down below 10s for all the disc types we tried, which is an improvement on the 12-15s we've seen from several recent machines.
Exceptionally versatile … Good video performance … Surprisingly good audio, too.
