  • Latest V7 Version

The new low-profile Surround 3 is a compact, extremely easy-to-place design, both sonically and physically.

Good architecture will stand up well over time, as will good sonic architecture. Paradigm's Monitor Series is a classic example. Now in its seventh iteration, each new generation is an opportunity for refinement: taking on design innovations from higher-priced reference lineups, reference-quality component parts, cabinets and even finishes.

When it comes to getting value for your money, it doesn’t get better than Monitor Series 7. Since its inception, the Monitor Series has been a favorite of audiophiles on a budget — with Series 7, that hasn’t changed.

The Building Blocks: Monitor Drivers

Advanced S-Pal Satin-Anodized Pure-Aluminium Bass/Midrange Cones. First seen in the Paradigm Reference lineup, very high stiffness-to-mass ratio and outstanding internal damping. The result? Remarkable midrange clarity, superb extended bass response and freedom from unwanted resonances and distortions. In an affordable audio category – unbelieveable quality!

Advanced S-Pal Satin-Anodized Pure-Aluminium Domes with powerful neodymium magnets and ferro-fluid cooling for increased power handling! Highs are more soaring and spacious, crystal clear and undiluted even at the higher bandwidths.

Wire Mesh Tweeter Guard and WaveGuide. More Reference technology, ensuring a smooth, wide panorama of audiophile-quality sound. Wire mesh protection for the pure-aluminium tweeter.

Sophisticated crossovers in an affordable audiophile product! Again, it’s almost unheard of: polypropylene film or bipolar electrolytic capacitors, air core and laminated core inductors, high-power resistors. Crossover topologies are first and second-order with corresponding acoustic slopes of second and third-order providing optimal bandwidth and seamless integration as drivers cross over.

Long-Travel Motor/Magnet Structures. Despite fewer drivers than in previous series, floorstanding and centre channel speakers actually plumb deeper. This is, in part, attributable to the advanced motor/magnet structures: high-temperature copper or aluminium wire voice coils (varies by model) wound on Kapton formers, oversized magnets with all components FEA-optimised.

Foam-Rubber Elastomer Surrounds. Reference Studio Series geometry! Help achieve that play loud AND play deep effect by allowing longer, expertly controlled cone travel.

High Performance, Low-Profile Bi-Directional Design

  • Will appeal to the audiophile eager for an affordable high-end 5.1 music and home theatre experience that includes Paradigm’s sought-after "surrounded-by-sound" experience in a dedicated high--performance surround speaker of compact dimensions.
  • The low-profile is application-friendly: perfectly suited for today’s multi-purpose listening spaces.
  • In recording studios, discrete multichannel mixing is the order of the day. Bi-directional in nature, the new coherent surround technology reproduces the surround experience exactly as the sound engineers envisioned. The speakers add size and dimension to the soundstage while enveloping you in non-localised sound.
  • The bidirectional technology also ensures extreme placement flexibility! It is more forgiving in areas where room dimensions, characteristics and/or room configuration (or all of these!) may not be optimal for a music and home theatre setup. In multi-use rooms where traditional surround speaker placement is neither possible or practical, Monitor Surrounds should be your first response.

Paradigm Monitor Surround 3 Speakers (Series 7) Reviews

SoundStage! by Vince Hanada February 2012 (Reviewed as part of system)
The Series 7 Monitor system delivered dynamic range best described as effortless... The ability of the Monitor system to reproduce the pulsating sound effects greatly increased my enjoyment

The great timbral matching of the Series 7 speakers was evident... sound quality didn't change as the sound moved from speaker to speaker.

Paradigm has made strides in the Surround 3. These speakers were remarkable in their ability to perform with diffuse and discrete effects. When I listened to "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes," from the multichannel edition of Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s Long Walk to Freedom (SACD/CD, Heads Up HUCD3109-25), the voices in the surround speakers sounded nearly identical to the same voices in Monitor 11 mains.

Paradigm’s Monitor Series 7 home-theatre system is a step up in performance from the previous Monitor Series, with improvements that include new and better drivers, a new configuration for the surround speakers, and surprising subwoofer performance from a small package. This is remarkable when you consider the fact that the price remains unchanged.

Although I found the appearance of the Monitor Series 7 speakers a bit average, their performance was anything but, and well worth hearing at your Paradigm dealer.

The Perfect Vision (AVguide.com) by Chris Martens November 2011 (Reviewed as part of system)
More than any other models that Paradigm makes, the Monitor family is thought to offer terrific performance per dollar, and with good reason. At Paradigm, you see, the practice of technology trickle-down is not just a design philosophy, but almost as a corporate religion where the "articles of the faith" require that each new-generation series of loudspeakers will be more technically sophisticated and better sounding than the last. To make good on this commitment, Paradigm works tirelessly to adapt exotic technologies from its high-end Signature models for use in its mid-priced Reference Studio speakers, and then in turn applies technologies and design techniques from the Studio range in its Monitor lineup. The result, in the case of the new Monitor Series 7 lineup, is unexpectedly refined sonic performance at surprisingly accessible price points.

... just a few years back, today’s new Monitor Series 7 models could easily have passed for earlier-generation Studio speakers.

Paradigm has seen fit to equip both its Monitor 11 floorstanders and Monitor Center 3 speaker with real, dedicated midrange drivers—not with compromise mid-bass drivers as would more commonly be seen in speakers in this price class. By fitting lighter and more responsive true midrange drivers, whose comparatively small-diameter diaphragms also provide superior dispersion, Paradigm is able to give the Monitor 11s and Center 3 a sound that is unexpectedly agile, nuanced, and refined.

... the Monitors would strike most listeners as offering a thoroughly satisfying amount of musical information—especially when their modest price is taken into account.

... the speakers deliver an expansive and lively sound with dynamics that can be—where appropriate—downright explosive. You’ll appreciate this quality especially in the midst of expressive action film soundtracks as the Monitors effortlessly “breathe” and flow with the action, rather than “flinching” when big moments come along, meaning they rarely if ever sound strained or compressed.

Finally, I could not help but note that the Monitor 11s offer a really nice combination of bass extension, power and control.

Consider this speaker system if:

  • You like the idea of getting much, though not quite all, of the performance (and underlying technology) of Paradigm’s higher-level Reference Studio-series speakers, but at a considerably lower price.
  • You want an affordable, yet highly capable do-all system that offers good resolution and imaging, full-range frequency response, and plenty of dynamic clout.
  • You like a moderately large (but not imposingly large), conventionally-styled speaker system that is well-finished, though in an understated way.

Paradigm’s Monitor Series 7 system offers a well-balanced mix of virtues while upholding the model line’s hard won reputation for value-first engineering. This system might serve as a “gateway to the high-end” for some listeners, but it is good enough that it will be a satisfying destination in its own right for many others.

Sound + Vision by Daniel Kumin January 2012 "Certified & Recommended" 9.7 / 10 (Reviewed as part of system)
Like the speakers that preceded them, Paradigm’s new Monitor models are benchmarks of performance/value quotient in the best Canadian-speaker tradition: rationally priced, excellent-performing, technically advanced designs that compete very effectively with some far more costly “high-end” designs.

Beginning as always with full-range stereo music from the Monitor 9s alone, I was immediately impressed. In short, as a full-range stereo reproducer, the Monitor 9s are very, very good.

Most dipolar or bipolar surround speakers show a lot of treble rolloff in the averaged frequency response, but not the Surround 3. Its treble response is excellent, and it measures just about as flat as the tower and center speakers. This should yield exceptionally lively surround sound effects.

The Series 7’s Center 3 proved as close a match to the Monitor 9s as you’re likely to find. Tonal character of both male and female announcers was very similar, and the big center-channel unit promises the kind of dynamic abilities that true, reference-level cinema sound demands: both virtues that, with few exceptions, only bulkier, three-way centers like Paradigm’s achieve. An equally important boon, also unique (or nearly so) to such three-way centers, was the Center 3’s outstanding off-axis consistency.

Paradigm has remained in the loudspeaker performance/value forefront for decades, a position that’s not going to change with the Monitor Series 7.

... the Paradigm system reviewed here is ridiculously good (for it's price).

It delivers natural tonal balance, serious bass extension, impressively clean dynamic range and transient punch, and tight, stable imaging in generous, well-balanced measure, with cosmetics and fit’n’finish that will satisfy most and should offend none.

Unhesitatingly recommended.
