With an elliptical stylus, the OM5E promises quality sound from Ortofon's moving magnet (VMS) system. New technology and further optimisation have produced the greatest sounding magnetic cartridges from Ortofon - ever!
Ortofon has been designing and manufacturing magnetic cartridges for more than 20 years. In providing an economic alternative to the renowned Ortofon moving coil cartridges, the magnetic models have established a firm position for themselves among music lovers and Hi-Fi cognoscenti the world over.
Naturally, the magnetic cartridges also benefits from Ortofon's research and experience in transducer technology. Sophisticated styli, light and rigid cantilevers, and advanced magnetic circuitry have produced a level of quality which is state-of-the-art within the magnetic category.
The Super OM cartridges have been designed on the basis of Ortofon's lightweight moving magnet system - originally introduced in the OM (Optimum Match) Series - with two major refinements.
By means of advanced computer simulation methods, it has been possible to define the natural pivot point of the system with unprecedented accuracy while achieving an optimum oscillation balance. This translates into improved linearity, higher channel separation, and reduced distortion. In addition, Ortofon has succeeded in developing a technique by which to slit the less than 1 mm diameter hollow pole pins, thus significantly reducing eddy current losses caused by magnetic hysteresis.
This sophisticated technology extends the frequency range and improves phase linearity. The cartridge body is manufactured from a Noryl plastic/glass combination, which ensures high rigidity, and freedom from resonances.

REVIEWS:
HFX Systems
"I liked the OM5E's ability to shovel out loads of detail from the groove, but I liked the overall liveliness and thrust of the cartridge even better."
Epinions Review
"This phono pickup most assuredly is a standout Five Star Performer!"
