Ortofon Vivo Blue Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge

Ortofon's MC Vivo Blue loads at or near 100 ohms and has .5mv output. Excellent sound from any turntable, thanks to its excellent tracking from a nude elliptical diamond, mounted on an aluminum catilever. Smooth, detailed and dynamic sound at a great price.

Special 7-nines (99.9999% pure) copper wire manufactured in Japan.

Low internal impedance makes the cartridge less sensitive to load and therefore ensures compatibility with the widest range of preamps and transformers.

A special newly developed polycarbonate based resin, Lexan DMX, in Piano Black is used for manufacturing of the body. This revolutionary material improves rigidity and damping properties and also has a very durable scratch resistant surface. Rigidity is an important performance character as the plastic-body serves as basis for the generator.

About Moving Coil Cartridges
Contrary to other types of phono catridges, the moving coil principle is not suited for mass production. Each of the four coils contains between 11 an 24 turns of wire, depending on model, and has to be wound by hand under a microscope. The wire itself is much thinner than a human hair. The high degree of craftsmanship involved is one of the "secrets" behind Ortofon's reputation.
