Item Description

“ScreenKote surface provided a high-quality projection surface for a tenth of the price of the screen with which we compared it.” - Best Buys Home Theatre Magazine

The Perfect Projector Screen

You've got a projector to enjoy cinema sized Home Theatre at home, but to make it come alive you need the perfect screen. Projecting directly onto a wall doesn't do the image justice, and the choice of screens available is sometimes confusing. Retractable screens can suffer stretch lines and wear & tear from being rolled upon themselves, while professional quality fixed units can cost up to $6,000 for a 110" screen. The answer is ScreenKote.

The advantages of ScreenKote are many:

  • Cost - a fraction of the price
  • Screen Size - flexibility of size. One pack is enough for a 150” screen!
  • Resolution - sharper, clearer image
  • Brightness - smooth relative light intensity with no hotspots
  • Gain ratings - fantastic viewing angles thanks to a gain rating of 0.95 (grey) / 1.1 (white) which diffuses light evenly in all directions
  • Contrast - richer blacks (especially in grey)! Broad contrast range provides a clean image
  • Colour Accuracy - red, green, and blue reflected evenly providing a naturally rich, colour correct palate
  • Durability - no wear and tear experienced with retractable screens

With its combination of amazing image quality and incredible low price, ScreenKote is the best value for money projector screen option available!

Which Screen Colour: Grey or White?

The answer comes from a combination of location and projector type.

If your home theatre room has absolutely no ambient lighting then a white screen with its higher gain rating is the preferred option (as white screens can reflect multiple lighting sources). Home theatre set-ups with light coloured walls and light spillage from other sources would benefit from a grey screen to kill off incidental light and maintain richer blacks in the viewing image.

CRT projectors have sufficient contrast to use a white screen (but can use both), while grey screens are perfect to boost the contrast for digital projectors.

ScreenKote Grey makes your images come to life! It gives projected images deeper blacks, fantastic contrast and rich colour reproduction.

ScreenKote White enhances brightness and colour depth, as well as increasing overall image clarity. Watch as once dull images spring to life with improved contrast.

The gain ratings of both Grey & White results in a broad viewing angle and even brightness across your screen, with no hotspots!

About Theatre Concepts ScreenKote

ScreenKote Projection Screen Surface Coating is a specially formulated acrylic base paint, designed specifically for video projection. ScreenKote allows you to transform any smooth paintable surface into a cinema projection screen.

The technology behind ScreenKote is the result of years of research and development, ensuring an excellent colour correct image with a truly broad contrast range. Results are naturally rich and clean images with superbly even light delivery and generously wide viewing angles.

ScreenKote is used in professional, commercial and industrial applications, and of course domestic home theatre systems.

Why Use a Screen At All?

A good projector is a highly advanced product and requires a projection surface that suits the parameters that the projector was designed to operate within. Only when these requirements are met will the image be of the quality that the manufacturer intended.

There are people who will tell you they have a great image just projecting on to a white wall at home. They are only short changing themselves on the performance they are getting from their projector investment.

"If you are not using a well controlled projection surface for your projector you ain’t seen nothin' yet"

How to Make a Projector Screen with ScreenKote

Coverage

One pack will typically be sufficient to create a 150” screen with three top coats on a non-porous surface. On particularly porous surfaces we recommend the use of additional acrylic primer for better results and increased coverage.

Application

Rolling ScreenKote is simple, however careful attention must be paid to the application method and roller handling ensuring that the ScreenKote is applied evenly across the entire screen surface.

First apply the acrylic primer with the roller. Allow to dry completely before applying the top coat (2 to 3 hours). Apply the first coat thinly and evenly and allow to dry for 1 to 2 hours before applying the second coat.

Normally 2 coats of ScreenKote applied to a white acrylic primer base is suitable, however this may vary depending on the porosity, and absorptive properties of the surface to be painted.

ScreenKote can be thinned down with water for spray application.

To clean up, simply wash up with water!

Frame

Should you wish to frame your screen, we recommend a thick frame (between 2"-3.25") coated in a non-reflective black material (velvet is perfect). This not only looks stylish, but won't detract from the projection.
