The Audeze LCD-2 is the first offering from Audeze in its LCD collection and is the headphone that put Audeze on the map as a leading manufacturer in the headphone industry. It is the first of the Audeze headphones to utilise the patent-pending Fazor technology and also uses planar magnetic technology. The result is an auditory experience that comes as close to the real thing as possible and converts the most indifferent of listeners into fans.
The LCD-2 brings to the table cutting edge technology with the results of all the information and advice from the Sound Engineers and Audiophiles. One of the unique features of the LCD-2 is the diaphragm – a proprietary patent-pending large ultra thin film diaphragm. This diaphragm is combined with another feature unique to Audeze – the patent-pending magnetic structure.
Together the magnetic structure and the diaphragm, which is placed between the structures, work to clean up the sound produced and reduce the distortion to as low a level as possible. This results in a sound that is as close to what the artist originally intended as possible. The bass is brilliant, and the mid-range is incredible. The technology also makes the audio much clearer by removing the breakup modes you will find in other such products.
Another proprietary patent-pending technology is the Fazor elements. It works by placing two of the Fazor elements close to and outside the magnetic structures. These magnetic structures, in turn, encompass the diaphragm. The Fazor elements steer the sound flow around the magnets and as a result, provide unmatched clarity of sound, highly improved focus and frequency extension. The holographic imaging is thus improved beyond measure.
Regarding looks, the Audeze LCD-2 is very stylish. It uses either Caribbean Rosewood or environmentally friendly bamboo for the ear cups. The ear pads are either made of lambskin leather or microsuede which is leather free for those who do not believe in using leather. The ear pads are sloped and also have just the right amount of specially selected foam which gives you the perfect firmness.
The headband of the Audeze LCD-2 is also made of lambskin, although again a leather-free version of the headphones is available. Included in the package is a sturdy travelling case and glossy black metal plug connectors for the headphones. There is also a 2.5m 6.35mm (1/4") to dual 4-pin mini-XLR cable and a 6.35mm (1/4in) to 3.5mm (1/8") stereo adapter in the box. Last but most important are the warranty documents which are also in the package. It is also useful to note that the Audeze LCD-2 is best when run via a dedicated headphone amp/DAC.
