The Planar Magnetic Driver in the Oppo PM-3 is developed from the driver in Oppo's award-winning PM-1 headphones. Further engineering breakthroughs included in the PM-1 make their way into the PM-3, including an optimised neodymium magnet system, 7-layer voice coil diaphragm design and reduced weight design to ensure the best sound quality and comfortability.
The PM-3 headphones' Planar Magnetic driver generates sound from a thin and light diaphragm, which is driven in a symmetric pull-push manner. The magnetic system and conductor patterns were optimised for maximum sensitivity to allow the diaphragm to generate stable & linear vibrations, ensuring phase coherence & the highest resolution performance with minimal distortion.
Traditionally, Planar Magnetic technology has been difficult to drive and was much heavier, the Oppo PM-3's smaller driver size and high-sensitivity overcome this issue while ensuring the highest sound quality and comfort.
