Crucial to the consistency and seamless surround sound field generated by the 950 system, front and rear speakers employ the same innovative drivers, crossover components and technologies.
While this may seem like common sense, many so-called surround “systems” are in fact a hodgepodge of random odds and ends. The M&K Sound 950 system is designed from the ground up as an integral system for extreme realism and three-dimensional holographic imaging. To achieve this goal, both models employ exclusive, identical 5.25” polypropylene woofers, two in the LCR950 and one in the SUR95T surround, integrated with the groundbreaking M&K Sound Pro tweeter via the exclusive M&K Sound Phase Focused crossover. Unlike other crossover designs that are optimised only for a narrow and shallow “sweet spot”, proprietary M&K Sound Phase-Focused™ crossovers deliver razor-sharp imaging and flat frequency response over a very wide listening area by optimizing system performance in both the vertical and horizontal planes. At virtually any listening position, the audience will experience superior three-dimensional imaging and clarity for remarkable musical realism and dialog intelligibility.
The LCR-950 is a high performance two-way, bookshelf size loudspeaker utilizing a 1” polymer coated silk soft-dome, ferrofluid cooled dual-magnet tweeter with specially damped rear chamber, and dual 5¼” mineral-filled polypropylene cone, magnetically shielded cast basket woofers. Featuring M&K Sound's proprietary Phase-Focused™ Crossover, the LCR-950 provides extraordinarily even dispersion of sound throughout a broad listening area with superior imaging and sound quality.
The SUR-95T Tripole® delivers both imaging specificity and an enveloping sound field, because it is essentially two independent speakers (a front-radiating monopole and a side-radiating dipole) mounted in a single cabinet. This breakthrough design shares all of the technologies and is timber matched to the rest of the 950 system.
Featuring two 3” pulp mid-tweeters on each side of the cabinet oriented in dipole fashion, the dipole configuration emits diffused sound throughout the room. Combined with the front-mounted 1” silk dome tweeter and 5.25” polypropylene mid-woofer direct radiating configuration, the Tripole® design provides even distribution of sound throughout the listening area with pinpoint accuracy and an enveloping sound field, allowing listeners to experience superior imaging and surround quality. The SUR-95T Tripole® surround is the ideal match for the LCR-950 in output, timber and overall sound quality.
The SUR-95T is a Tripole™ Surround loudspeaker with forward firing two-way array utilizing a 1” polymer coated silk soft-dome, ferrofluid cooled dual-magnet tweeter with specially damped rear chamber, and a 5¼” mineral-filled polypropylene cone, magnetically shielded cast basket woofer, combined with two side firing 3¼” coated pulp cone, magnetically shielded full range drivers. Featuring M&K Sound's proprietary Phase-Focused™ Crossover, it provides extraordinarily even dispersion of sound throughout a broad listening area with superior imaging and sound quality. The SUR-95T is timbre-matched to the LCR-950 for a rock-steady consistent surround sound field with seamless transitions as voices and sound effects move across or through the three-dimensional soundstage.
Major design features borrowed from the top of the line M&K Sound X Series include aluminium AC shorting rings installed in the magnet system and a flared, vented pole design to effectively reduce compression and distortion.
These devices make valuable contributions to the effortless bass transparency of the M&K Sound V Series. Sealed enclosures ensure exceptional transient response (a.k.a. fast, “punchy” bass) with minimal distortion. The elimination of a port opening also enhances flexibility of placement for optimal deep bass performance.
Again drawing on technology from the state of the subwoofer art X Series, V Series subwoofers are driven by Class D power amplifiers with fully discrete analog input stages ideally integrated with the enclosure, crossover and woofer.
