The Stealth Acoustics LR3 is a three-way, full-range loudspeaker system that becomes completely invisible after installation, making it perfect for home theatre use. Part of the all new LineaResponse series of invisible speakers that challenge the sound quality of expensive visible speakers, Stealth Acoustics have continued to build on their award-winning line of invisible speakers by incorporating an all new face panel material that delivers unmatched warmth, realism and depth of sound – all while making installation even easier. No fatigue, no lost detail, just the best sounding family of totally invisible speakers and subwoofers available. The L3R loudspeaker has a rigid frame that attaches directly to standard structural framing. The paintable active diaphragm face is bonded to the frame of the speaker panel, creating an active area surrounded by a stable mounting area. Installation instructions are shown on a paper overlay that is to be removed before installation. The overlay can also be used as a cutting template for retrofitting the speakers into existing wallboard. The LR3 may be installed in either the wall or ceiling and on-site finishing options include latex paint, light wallpaper, fabrics and selected texture coats. There is no need for special vellums or other non-standard wallboard finishing materials. Advanced finishing methods such as Venetian plaster and select veneers are supported using special techniques. The Stealth Acoustics LR3 incorporates an acoustically coupled high quality, high-power 8" / 203 mm cone woofer and direct coupled 1" / 25 mm neo-magnet high-frequency motors. Advanced internal carbon fiber materials allow for smooth frequency extension to 20 kHz. When the LR3 is installed in standard insulated 2" x 4" framing and allowed to function in a full 2.4 m / 8 foot stud bay, frequency response below 40 Hz can be achieved. The LR3 contains three independent protection circuits (low, mid-range and high frequency sections) that automatically reset upon reduction of excessive amplifier power. LineaResponse technology provides a new and pleasing voicing to invisible speakers, allowing them to output full and natural sound from very low to louder listening levels. This really is the end of aesthetic pollution when it comes to making the right speaker choice for your home or project. Quality Since Stealth speakers become part of the finished wall or ceiling, Stealth Acoustics realise that reliability is paramount to their success. The quality components and crossover systems in all Stealth speakers are engineered and manufactured for heavy use and are equipped with self-resetting poly-switch overload protection to protect the drive units well below their rated power handling. To further ensure consistent quality, every Stealth speaker is tested with computer analysis and a listening test before they are shipped. Stealth Acoustics share the same characteristics as regular speakers, including frequency response, sensitivity and power handling, as well as other specifications of high-end visible in-wall speakers. They work seamlessly with other components in your entertainment system. No special equalizers or signal processing is required; Stealth Acoustics products are equally comfortable being driven by an inexpensive stereo receiver, a whole house audio amplifier or high-end audio component. Installation The Stealth speaker system installs and finishes as easily as a plaster sheet in a stud wall or ceiling space. Installation can be as simple as placing the wires in the high quality binding posts, attaching the speaker to the wall framing and finishing the wall surface. No special brackets or glues are required during installation. Stealth Acoustics LR3 3-Way 8 Inch Full Range Invisible Speaker Reviews TechRadar (review based on LR3 fronts, LR6 surrounds and B30 subs plus the SA 255R bass amp) 4/5 Stars November 2010 Listening to the system played at heroic levels, I slowly got used to the eeriness of not having a pair of large floorstanders and a big centre-stage box. The fiery bombing event in Quantum of Solace ... played through the LRs didn't disappoint. They handled the extreme dynamic range, which features huge explosions but is also loaded with the subtle tinkling of glass at the periphery of the sound scene. Not all speakers manage this bandwidth with such aplomb. This remarkably powerful front stage trick is performed by the three LR3 units flanking and mounted below the screen. Each has a beefy 8-inch driver and triple array of mid/high frequency motors exciting carbon fibre disc diaphragms. Unsurprisingly, they go loud, high and deep. The coherence of the three front units is impressive, enabling a well-focused centre with a natural sound projection. The enveloping quality of the sound is greatly assisted by the wide polar dispersion pattern. Both movies and music tracks lead me to conclude that Stealth Acoustics has come up with a remarkable product. I asked Stealth's engineers about the best environments for these speakers, and they claim that differences in wall materials have surprisingly little effect on their acoustic performance. They are all designed to operate within a wall aperture with just a few millimetres clearance. However, close-fitting mounting boxes are offered by Habitech – these are mostly used where sound leakage to an adjacent room needs to be reduced. I was also told that if the speakers are mounted into poorly-constructed stud walls, any vibration can usually be eliminated by filling the surrounding wall cavities preferably with sand, or expanding urethane foam. Vibration weak spots can be traced using a tone generator – this is something your installer can help with. Stealth Acoustics' home cinema array produces a massively dynamic sound with good resolution, and the flat membrane construction has wide dispersion properties which adds an extra ethereal quality to the mix. And it takes up no space. Definitely worth getting a demo if you like your cinema sound heard but not seen. Stealth Acoustics first invisible speakers were the result of a 2-year R&D cycle which debuted in 2003 to accolades from CEDIA show attendees. Since then they have constantly continued to improve sound quality, form factoring and ease of installation, culminating - at least for now - in our stunning LR series of invisible speakers and subwoofers. This continuous improvement mindset has brought many awards from CEDIA Lifestyles (AX3 model), Residential Systems’ RESI award (B1630 subwoofer) and the CE TechHome Mark of Excellence Award (FX8 model). Today they are known for offering not only the best and most reliable invisible speakers, but also amplification and DSP-based processing all to create a total systems approach to totally invisible sound.
